Abstract

This research is motivated by the increasing geopolitical dynamics in the North Natuna Sea, which have a direct impact on the potential and management of Indonesia’s maritime economy, particularly in the context of marine resource utilization and the stability of border areas. The main issue addressed in this study is how geopolitical challenges affect Indonesia’s maritime economic strengthening strategies and how the optimization of marine resource management can be carried out sustainably. This study aims to analyze Indonesia’s maritime economic strengthening strategies in response to geopolitical pressures and to identify effective approaches to maritime area management. The theoretical framework employed in this research includes maritime geopolitics theory and the concept of the blue economy, which emphasizes the sustainable utilization of marine resources while maintaining a balance between economic development, environmental preservation, and security. This study adopts a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach through a literature review of various policy documents, scientific journals, and official reports. The findings indicate that the North Natuna Sea faces significant geopolitical pressures; however, it possesses substantial maritime economic potential if managed through an integrated strategy encompassing security, diplomacy, and economic development. In addition, challenges remain in terms of policy coordination and the monitoring of marine resources. The study concludes that strengthening Indonesia’s maritime economy requires a comprehensive and sustainability-based strategy to safeguard national sovereignty while enhancing public welfare.
